About our Founder

Mary Windsor-Morris Zufall is the Founder and President of the Brett J. Morris Avenger Foundation, a nonprofit organization created in honor of her late husband, SGT Brett J. Morris, and dedicated to mental health awareness, suicide prevention, survivor support, and community outreach.

Mary and Brett shared over 20 years together after meeting in August 2000, beginning their journey as husband and wife on December 29, 2000. Together they built a life rooted in faith, family, service, and resilience while raising their two daughters, Hannah Kate and Mackenzie Jo. Throughout Brett’s military career serving in the United States Army and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Night Stalkers), Mary faithfully stood beside him through deployments, training, promotions, sacrifices, and the unseen battles military families often carry.

In September 2021, after years of battling chronic pain, PTSD, and depression, Brett tragically lost his life to suicide. In the midst of unimaginable grief, Mary chose to honor Brett’s legacy by turning pain into purpose through the creation of the Brett J. Morris Avenger Foundation.

Since Brett’s passing, Mary’s faith has become the cornerstone of her healing journey. Through God’s grace, she has found hope, restoration, and renewed purpose after profound loss. While grief remains part of her daily life, she has learned to carry it differently; with faith, compassion, and a deep desire to help others know they are not alone. She openly shares her testimony to encourage those struggling with mental health challenges, grief, trauma, and hopelessness, reminding others that healing is possible and that hope can still be found even in life’s darkest moments.

Mary has since remarried and continues to dedicate her life to serving others through ministry, nonprofit work, and community outreach. She volunteers with the Night Stalker community, serves within her church and Christian organizations, and collaborates alongside other nonprofits to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.

A former collegiate athlete with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Mary has spent nearly two decades coaching and mentoring young athletes in her community. Through her work in fastpitch softball, she has witnessed firsthand the growing pressures, anxiety, depression, and identity struggles facing today’s youth and student athletes. Her passion is not only to train athletes physically, but to help equip them emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to navigate life’s hardships with resilience, faith, and confidence.

Under Mary’s leadership, the Brett J. Morris Avenger Foundation has become a growing source of hope and support within the community. The foundation hosts annual awareness events including the 5K Walk, Run & Ruck, provides grief support gatherings for survivors of suicide loss, offers resiliency-focused outreach and training, funds local scholarships, and assists families facing tragedy and hardship after losing a loved one to suicide.

At the center of Mary’s mission is a commitment to faith, healing, and community, creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to keep fighting their battles. Through the Foundation’s “Defenders of Mental Health” initiative, Mary continues to advocate for open conversations, compassion, and the belief that no one should walk through pain alone.

Mary’s mission is simple but powerful: to be a light for others, to honor Brett’s legacy through service, and to remind every person struggling that there is always hope, help, and healing available.

🛡️ Faith is our Shield. Healing is our Mission.
